The Upper Mustang region is located western part of Nepal with Tibetan border which was strictly announced as restricted area when China controlled Tibet and Dalai Lama had fled to India. The KAMPAS fearsome Guerrilla was taking training secretly in Upper Mustang against China. At that condition, China forced to Nepal Govt. to use power to dismiss Guerrilla activities and Nepal sent 11000 Army to dismiss the activist then it was declared restricted area.
Since 1992, this area was opened for trekkers having especial permit within group organized from Government, Registered Trekking Company following terms & condition of Nepal government. The government had decided as restricted area to protect environment, remote culture and national border, Now Annapurna Conservation Area Project (ACAP) International Aid, Organization and American Himalayan Foundation are involved to develop environmental and cultural activities in Upper Mustang. Historically, religiously and geographically is very mysterious, the Mustang is thumb-like part of Nepal expending in to Tibet. LO-MANTHANG is itself similar to the Tibetan plateau with its endless expanses yellow and grey rolling hills eroded by wind. It is really dry windy eroded land whereas very less monsoon falls in monsoon season but in winter almost all covered with snow. This is why, the people of Lo-Manthang leaves the village to escape from cold in winter.
There are many astonishing construction was constructed by sun-baked bricks of mud and there are four wall and four story mud Palace in Lo-Manthang and build in same manner. People believe that the present king of this Lo-Manthang is 25th generation of AME-PAL of Tibet; they established so many SAKYAPA Monasteries and strongly follow the Sakyapa sect of Tibetan Buddhism and they love to preserve local culture with decorating house and temple by traditional paintings. Especially from April to October is the best time to visit in this region. The Holiday Hiking Team happy to welcome with any question well information and organize tour as well.
