Kanchenjunga is on the border of Nepal and the Indian state of Sikkim. This region was declared as a restricted area to protect environment, remote culture and security for border and local people, when China controlled Tibet. Kanchenjunga region was opened for tourist in 1988. But, before this, there were lot of Mountaineering activities as well. Trekkers must organize their trek from Govt. register trekking company with especial permit and follow all the terms and condition of Nepal. Individual trekkers aren’t allowed to trek in this region. This is the 3rd highest Mountain in the World whereas there are two trekking routes: south face route and north face route. The northern route are more long, high and danger but it provides the vantage point for Mountains like: Kanchenjunga (8586 m),Wedge Peak (6750 m),The Twins (7350 m), Pyramid Peak (7168 m) and Tent Peak (7365 m). It is really dramatic but this route leads to Yalung Base Camp (4500 m) through beautiful vegetation, landscape, Yak meadows to the glaciers. Through which dramatic views can be enjoyed of south face of Kanchenjunga, Jannu (7711 m),Yalung Khang (8505 m) are seen as well.
The Kanchenjunga Base Camp Trek can be possible if trekkers have enough time, well-equipped and good weather. The region is dominated by Rai and Limbu and their intact life-style and amazing culture.They claim that they are the original people of Nepal as well. Their hat and dress have distinctive feature than other group and Tongba is their traditional local drink which is made from fermented millet seed put in the wooden put with hot water straw it by pipe, they belief in both Hindus and Buddhist. Anyway, this long trek offers colorful experiences like; – mixture culture of low land to distinctive culture of upper land, colorful landscape, flora, fauna, animals and high Mountain to hot plain land.
